The president of the Diputació de Girona Miquel Noguer, Nathalie Regon-Planas, representative of the towns on the coast of Northern Catalonia and more than twenty mayors from the coastal towns of Girona participated yesterday in the presentation and staging of the Camí de Mar project, which aims to link Argeles de la Merenda with Malgrat taking advantage of the existing routes, and some to create, which allow to complete all routes. Once completed, the work will have a total of 250 kilometers of route.

Eduard Bonmatí, as a representative of the Camí de Mar Association, explained that: "this is a project that aims to create a cross-border path that connects the Costa Brava with the Red Coast" and emphasized: "that it is a project that respects the environment and that serves to protect the marine coast."

The also promoter of the project Josep Lluís Martínez stressed that: "the Camino de Mar must be a tool for tourism, health, economic impact on the territory and deseasonalizing tourism."
For his part, the president of the Diputació de Girona Miquel Noguer defined the project: "of brilliant idea", before which he wanted to emphasize the fact: "to be all the town councils, county councils and institutions to whom it corresponds in order to make it possible". And he also pointed out that: "it is necessary to look for the legal formula to channel this union." And he went further, assuring that one of the keys: "it is not to make the initial work, but to ensure its conservation and maintenance once done."

On behalf of the populations that bathe the Red Coast, Nathalie Regon-Planas pointed out that: "the project must begin in Northern Catalonia, since in this way you can begin to seek funding through some European aid programs" and urged those present at a second meeting in Northern Catalonia, next autumn.
The different mayors of the towns of Girona where the Camí de Mar will pass hosted the project in a very positive way, highlighting that it will create a flow of tourism throughout the year, with overnight stays in the different towns of the Catalan and French coast and that will deseasonalize summer tourism. They also paid attention to subsequent conservation, as one of the key points of the new infrastructure.

Sea Path

The Camí de Mar project contemplates a route from Argeles de la Merenda to Malgrat , with a total of 250 kilometers, which can be done in different stages, according to the rhythm and needs of each person. In any case, the initial idea is to be able to cover it at most in eighteen stages.

The route is divided into three sections: North, Central and South and of the total 250 kilometers, there are currently 155 already done and in good condition and 62 in which some intervention is necessary and 33 that the union between roads must be made.
